History
On March 9, 1924, the Fort Collins Express-Courier ran an article announcing the formation of the Fort Collins Apartment Company. This same article announced its first apartment house was to be built on the corner of South College Avenue and Locust Street, taking up “five fine corner lots which face the north and west.” The first “For Rent” advertisement for the “Scott Apartments” was posted January 8, 1925. Nearly a century later this stately brick building continues to offer homes to residents from all walks of life.
The Scott Apartments represents one of the first constructions of what has now become common in Fort Collins, the “stand-alone apartment building. Over the years there have been only minor changes to the buildings original design. The historic character and fabric of the building remain intact. In April 2022 the National Park Service recognized it as fine example of the early 20th century apartment house and officially listed The Scott Apartments on The National Register of Historic Places.
Landmark Rehabilitation
In 2022 the Levingers commenced a comprehensive perseveration/rehabilitation of The Scott Apartments to give it “Another Century of Service”. The project addressed the shortcomings of a 100-year-old building while preserving much of the buildings historic fabric and character. Completed in 2023, the newly renovated apartment house melds the timeless history of the building with completely updated functionality to offer residents efficient, comfortable, and classic apartment homes.
Levinger Properties
Longtime Owners Steve and Missy Levinger both grew up in Fort Collins and have lived just blocks from The Scott Apartments for nearly 4 decades. They have owned and rehabilitated several historic properties in the area. Most notable, they completed an award-winning historic rehabilitation of the Armstrong Hotel in 2004. They owned and operated the hotel with authentic Fort Collins hospitality hosting tens of thousands of guests through 2017. They continue to operate Levinger Properties and The Scott Apartments as a locally owned family business. They offer their tenants the same friendly personal hospitality and attention to detail that they honed as successful innkeepers for many years.
